A historic Landmark, Reimagined
Arctic Light Hotel is more than a place to stay—it’s a piece of Rovaniemi’s history, thoughtfully transformed into a boutique hotel that honors its past while embracing the present.

New vision
Originally built in 1949 as Rovaniemi’s City Hall, the building was designed by local architect Ferdinand Salokangas as part of the city’s post-war reconstruction. For decades, it stood as the heart of decision-making, witnessing the evolution of the Arctic capital. After the city council relocated in 1988, the landmark stood silent—until a new vision emerged.

Hotel
In 2004, hotel entrepreneur Mikael Gröhn saw potential in the abandoned building, converting it into apartments and commercial spaces. But it was in 2013 that the true transformation began. With a bold ambition to create something unique, Mikael embarked on a journey to turn the former city hall into a high-end boutique hotel together with renowned Finnish architect Jaakko Puro.
